about this blog

KANANGA is some forty kilometers from my hometown--Palompon.

The place was unknown to many (including myself) for many years back. I only knew this place, as a small, rustic, laid-back rural town in Leyte. Whenever I passed by this place, (let's say ten years ago) in going to Tacloban, this is unnoticed to many.

But contrary to my belief there are many things that Kananga has to offer. I learned five years ago that this town is a first class municipality, and is producing electricity to many parts of the country, but that time, I cannot believe that, since I know Kananga as a relatively small town, and I seldom go to this place before, because of the reported insurgency related incidents, etc.

Two years ago, a vision-oriented leader of this town has aggressively transformed this sleeping small town into a dynamic municipality.

Many things that happened to Kananga and now even skeptics believed that Kananga is indeed a promising town and has lots of potentials;

* It is the geothermal capital of the Philippines, being the home of the largest geothermal plant in the world; and is supplying electricity to Luzon, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Bohol, Cebu, Negros and Panay.

* Kananga is a major rice producer in the province of Leyte (thanks to Mayor Codilla's program on rice production)

* This town is the sugar capital of Eastern Visayas, with its vast tract of land devoted to sugarcane and the home of the only sugar mill in Region 8.

* The place of the newly proclaimed Eco-Zone by PGMA located in a 30-hectares of land in Montebello, near HISUMCO

* The town has a world-class training center run by EDC, Kananga-LGU and TESDA, which offers tech-voc courses.

* Kananga is a major producer of many agri products

* This town is a major livestock producer in Leyte

* It has potential tourism spots, like Hotspring in Tongonan, Uban falls in Libertad, Yamashita Defense Line in Libongao, Queen's Pineapple plantation in Masarayao, Our Lady of Queen of Peace Hermitage in Natubgan, Ocean View in Mahawan, etc. and many other scenic spots.

Now, I am happy to find this place, my new found home- KANANGA.
